There’s no shortage of great holiday destinations around the globe.  But few can match the affordability and dramatic scenery of little Lanzarote – located in the Canary Islands.  Which offers reliably warm weather all year round.

Lanzarote is in fact a Spanish island despite the fact that it is geographically much closer to Africa than Iberia.  As this was one of the first conquests of the Spanish empire in the early 15th century.  Providing the springboard for the campaign to conquer Latin America.

Today the island is all about tourism – as this is Lanzarote´s economic lifeblood.  With millions of visitors booking holidays in Lanzarote every year.

The most popular resort during the winter months is Playa Blanca – located at the southern end of the island.  Playa Blanca was a quiet fishing village until about twenty years ago.  But the potential offered by the beaches here as well as its favourable microclimate made tourist development somewhat inevitable.  Today there’s an abundance of hotels and villas in Playa Blanca for visitors to choose from.  As this has rapidly become the second largest resort on the island.

A good selection of Lanzarote villas and apartments can also be found in the largest resort of Puerto del Carmen.  Which is located closer to the airport than Playa Blanca and which has an older tourist pedigree.  Having welcomed visitors for well over forty years.

The third main destination for holidaymakers on the island is Costa Teguise, which is located towards the northern end of the island.  Costa Teguise was originally developed as Lanzarote´s upmarket resort during the 1980´s.  But has since fallen out of favour a little as the weather here is often not as good as in Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen.

Wherever visitors stay Lanzarote offers loads to do and see – and the island is so small it’s very easy to explore too.  Top of the tours is the Timanfaya National Park – home to Lanzarote´s 300 plus volcanoes.  Followed closely by the incredible creations of the local artist César Manrique.  Who designed a number of visitor attractions such as the Mirador del Rio and the Cactus Garden which all work in perfect harmony with the islands twisted volcanic terrain.

Beach lovers will also adore Lanzarote – as there are over 90 superb stretches of sand to explore and enjoy.  And nearly all boast golden grains rather than the black sand so common on other Canary Islands, such as Tenerife.
